The My Aged Care process explained

My Aged Care is the Australian Government-funded organisation for aged care services. The phone line and website is there to inform older Australians, their families and carers on how to access the support they need.

My Aged Care provides:

Information on the different types of aged care services available

  • An assessment of needs to identify eligibility and the right type of care
  • Referrals and support to find service providers that can meet your needs
  • Information on what you might need to pay towards the cost of your care

My Aged Care won’t develop an individual care plan or organise your local services you need to remain healthy and independent at home. This is done from your local provider in which you choose to engage with for home care services

Navigating this process to ensure you get the best possible home care can be a daunting task for many older Australians and that’s how myHomecare can assist.

How can myHomecare help?

So, you might be feeling like you have learnt a lot so far but also that there is a lot you haven’t found out yet; myHomecare is definitely the easiest way to get quality, personalised home care for you or your loved ones.

We are here for you – from starting your home care journey, to building your care plan or switching providers – we’ve helped thousands of Australian’s understand, access and maximise their government funded home care package.

At myHomecare, we believe that everyone should have access to quality, personalised care that is right for them, and our priority is making sure that you choose a provider who can support you every step of the way. (Even if it is not one of our own!)

So I have my assessment booked in – How do I prepare?

My Aged Care will make an appointment with you to meet one of their assessors – these are sometimes called RAS (Regional Assessment Services or ACAT – Aged care Assessment Team). They will come to your home, sit down with you and will ask you a series of questions regarding your personal details such as your name, date of birth, address, next of kin to verify who you are.

Then they will work through a series of questions and capability observations that help them determine the level of support you require.  It is important to be prepared for this appointment with some documents and information.

To find out more about the assessment process, we have designed a quick and easy guide on each step so you can follow along. You can also download the myHomecare checklist to help you through it or give us a call today on 1300 20 90 20.
