How do I choose a provider that’s right for me?

Not all home care providers are the same and all offer varying degrees of support and services.

Understanding home care and choosing a provider can be confusing. Some things to consider when choosing or switching providers include:

  • Beware of hidden exit fees. You can check your current care agreement from your current provider and we encourage you to ask if this is included in your package
  • List what you need. This may be things like a particular service you need to remain independent at home or availability of staff to meet your needs
  • Do your homework. It’s best to ask your provider how long they have been a home care business for, the level and consistency of training for their staff and the qualifications of the team who will be assisting you with your home care services
What should I expect from a home care provider?

It’s important to understand and make clear your expectations from your home care provider.

A provider should always start with understanding your personal situation, this can be done over the phone. They should be transparent about the way they structure their fees and charges, how your care plan will be developed and delivered and be able to articulate really well why you should choose them. 

The provider should introduce you to the Care Manager who will be looking after your needs from the first visit. You want to make sure you don’t need to keep telling your story to different people along the way – in other words make sure they offer trained Care Managers and not Salespeople!

Once you’ve met your Care Manager and chosen your provider, you will receive your provider agreement alongside terms and conditions. Providers vary depending on the level of service and your care requirements, however you will also receive an individual care plan with your allocated services.

Can I switch home care providers if I’m not happy?
