What is home care?

Home care is designed to support you with various tasks that might be getting harder as you get older; this allows you to be able to keep doing the things you can do and want to do.

Assistance with cooking, cleaning, some assistance with your personal care routine, or staying connected with your community is available from trained carers across Australia.

“It can take over 12 months to receive your funding, so it’s important to start the process early.”

At myHomecare, we believe that everyone should have access to quality, personalised care that is right for them, and our priority is making sure that you choose a provider who can support you every step of the way.

Frequently asked questions

Accessing a home care package is determined by your current needs and assessment from My Aged Care.

When a person’s needs change and they require more than one or two services, need additional help coordinating the care they receive, or have more complex needs, they may be eligible for a home care package. Unlike services provided under the Commonwealth Home Support Programme, which offers basic assistance, Home Care Packages offer a higher level of support if you have more complex needs. To receive a Home Care Package you will need to be assessed by an Aged Care Assessment Team/Service (ACAT/S)

How much does Home care cost?

The cost of a government funded home care package depends on your situation, the services you need and your financial situation.

If you choose not to fund your home care package yourself privately, the cost of a government funded home care package depends on your situation, including the type of services you need and your financial situation.

The maximum basic fee is 17.5% of the single person rate of the basic Age Pension. This works out to be $142.38 per person, per fortnight. To find out more about fees and your options  you can see the myHomecare fees section.

We have designed a quick and easy guide on each step so you understand the assessment process.
